Aswani Aswath is a Singaporean bilingual writer who graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Literature and a minor in Theatre Studies. She holds a Masters of Arts (Distinction) in Creative Writing from LASALLE College of the Arts. Aswani began her theatre training at Buds Youth Theatre (BYT) in 2010. As a former Writer-in-Residence for Buds Theatre Company, she wrote scripts for schools and community-based projects and conducted playwriting workshops for BYT. Her plays have also been performed at various festivals by the Esplanade, the Arts House, Wild Rice, T:>works and Ravindran Drama Group amongst others. In 2020, she completed the Playwrights’ Cove mentorship programme run by The Necessary Stage. A creative at heart, Aswani also dabbles in screenwriting, poetry and storytelling and has been involved in various projects with industry professionals. One of her screenwriting projects, 'Irandu' (Invictus Productions), was nominated for Best Limited Drama Series at the Pradhana Vizha Awards in 2022 . A believer in the voice of the youth, she steers her students to harness the power of storytelling to express themselves creatively. Aswani is also serving in the Executive Committee of the Singapore Drama Educators Association as the Secretary from 2023 to 2025. Through her diverse portfolios, Aswani advocates for the recognition of multilingual and marginalised voices, embodying her vision for a more inclusive society.
